iPhone 5 Likely to be Dual-Mode for CDMA and GSM Networks
When the iPhone 5 is announced, one of the details that will likely be included is the device supporting both GSM and CDMA networks. Since the launch of the iPhone 4 on Verizon earlier this year that particular model has used a Qualcomm chip inside for CDMA. It is believed that Apple will use Qualcomm in a dual-mode device so that it is compatible on both types of networks. What this means is that the device will be classed as a World Phone as you'll be able to take it to most places around the world and have compatibility. It isn't clear at the moment if Apple will require a physical/removable SIM card for those using GSM networks as we heard talk late last year that suggested Apple is looking at a built in programmable SIM that can be attached to a network when purchased. The "almost" confirmation of the device being dual-mode comes from a popular apps developer who looked through app usage logs and found indications that a brand new Apple device running iOS 5 was spotted in the logs. The device had two distinct mobile network codes which indicates the dual-mode device is being tested by some staff internally. Sure enough, some registrations for the app – which the developer also asked not to be named – were logged from a new Apple device, using the MNC/MCC codes from both Verizon and AT&T. We expect to see the iPhone 5 released sometime in October this year with an announcement around the end of September. Other features expected include a new design, faster processor, better cameras (perhaps with better low light shooting) and also rumours of a 4 inch screen have been suggested.
